This work is abstract painting that includes a balance of yellow, red, blue, green, and black. The background of the work is black, and the colored shapes overlap each other in the foreground. The 1996 Greiner Award Winner Paul Ward, made a hollow metal cast sculpture with what looks to be cement or stone. It resembles a traditional mortar and pestle, or separate ceremonial dish. The details in the sculpture reveal where Ward may have use small ropes or net in order to make an impression on the casting, or aid in removal. and Paul Ward (1996 Hanover College Greiner Award Winner).
